What is Low GI (Healthy Diet)


People have been tryng to measure  and understand the healthy foods for long time, They are trying to 

figureout the method and ways of measuring it. Therefore the low GI concept came to in the world in  early 80'. It is basically an index which measure the glucose level in food. The scale is 0 to 100. Index 0 assigned to a lower glucose level and 100 assigned to a relative increment in the blood glucose level in 2 hours, after consuming the food.

The index have some classifications. 

a) Index level below 55 : Considered as healthy foods

b) 55< GI Index) < 70 - Cosidered as Medium risk

c) 70< GI Index - Considered as high risk food


Therefore if we have the understanding of lower GI value food, we can live a healthy life.


Low GI foods:

  •  Vegetables: Tomatoes, Peppers,  lettuce, eggplants.Broccoli,
  • Fruits: Apple,Strawberries,, pears.
  • Legumes: Chickpeas, beans (dried or boiled), legumes.
  • Dairy: Whole/full-fat milk, plain yogurt.
  • Sweets: Dark chocolate with more than 70% cocoa.
  • Nuts: Cashews, peanutsLow  

GI Bread: 
In general, bread is considered as not suitable for health due to refine wheat flour. When it comes to Low GI bread, it is made out of whole wheat flour.It is not only whole wheat flour but it has to include grains such as oats, flex seeds, pumpking seeds, sesami, sun flour seeds ect. 
You can get a light brown colour with adding 'Kurakkan' which is south Asian variety. But there are lot of other recipes are available in the world.
