What is difference between fats and fatty acids?

Fats are made out of fatty acids. During digestion, our body breakdown fats in to fatty acids. Then only it can be absorbed in to the blood. Fats are molecules and these molecules are called triglycerides. 

Some fatty acid has single bond and others have double bonds.

Fatty acids with single bonds are called saturated.

Double bonds are called unsaturated.

What are good fats?

Most unsaturated fats are good for us.

If we take excess saturated fats, it is bad for our health

Fats are also called lipids.

Fat’s function & importance of fats in our body

Fats are nutrients and it provides us energy and helps us to absorbs vitamins. Fats are essential ingredient for our body.


Types of Fats & Sources of fat

Fats are in different forms.

  • Saturated fats

Saturated fats are from animal base foods

E.g. Meat, butter

  • Mono saturated fats

Raw olive oil, nuts and avocado are rich with mono saturated

  • Poly saturated fats.

Saturated fatty acids are solid in room temperature.

Unsaturated fats are liquid in room temperature.
