5S is a beautiful concept which can be followed to any location, industry, institution. It is a way of living.

Once you extablish the correct atmosphere it is easy to impliment.

5S is a Japanese consept but it can be adapted to any contry. It consist of five principles.

1. Seiri ( Sort)

2. Seithon ( Set)

3. Seiso ( Shine)

4. Seiketsu ( Standard)

5 Sustain.

1. Seiri:

In simple terms, it is sort. i.e you have to segregate wanted and unwanted things

If some thing is wanted you have to extimate how often it is needed. and what quantity is needed.

If any unwanted things are found, you have to discard or sell.

2. Seithon

Seithon means you have to give a place for what ever you are keeping ( as per the above sorting) and every thing should be in designated place. This is very importnat concept.

Every body should know and understand that this rule is strickly followed.

3. Seiso

In above two steps, you have segregated and give specific location for any item. In third step, you need to clean the item. This involve, cleaning with meaning. If it is a machinery, you have to check how it get dirt and try to eliminate the source of contamination

4. Shithsuke

In this step you have to give the standards. For eg if you want the stacking height of some thing, you need to define the stacking height. If it is parking of some thing, you need to assign and highlight the parking slot.

5. Shithsuke

Inorder to sustain the 5S culture, you need to give continous training until every body understand the above system. It is very important to get the every body's participation.
