What is Sugar?

Term 'Sugar' represents a large family. They are all simple carbohydrates. They are belonging to mono and disaccharides.

Sugar is available in the tissues of many plants. Especially sugar cane and sugar beet. They are widely used as raw material for commercial extraction of sugar

What are the types of sugar?

Mono saccharides – One sugar molecule

·      Glucose

·      Fructose – Sugar in fruits

·      Galactose – Available in milk

Disaccharides – Two monosaccharides connected together

·      Sucrose – This is table sugar (Glucose + Fructose)

·      Lactose - Milk sugar – (Glucose + Galactose)

·      Maltose – Malt sugar (Glucose & Glucose)
